The punchless Yankees could probably use the bat of 41-year old Jason Giambi in their lineup Tuesday night against the Tigers in Game 3 of the ALCS.
But the former Yankees first baseman/DH will be in Colorado awaiting an interview for the Rockies managerial position, according to the Denver Post.
Rockies manager Jim Tracy stepped down last week after a 64-98 season- the third-straight year the Rockies' win total declined. Giambi was among several in-house candidates to be considered for the job. He has no previous managerial experience at any level, although he has worked with younger Rockies players on their hitting techniques.
In 60 games with the Rockies this year, Giambi had one home run and eight RBIs and batted just .225. He had offseason hernia surgery last week and didn't rule out returning to play in the 2013 season.
Giambi- the 2000 American League MVP who was with the Yankees from 2002-2008- has 429 career home runs and 1,405 RBIs in 18 career seasons with the Athletics, Yankees and Rockies.
