Cars wait in long lines at a Sunoco gas station on the Garden State Parkway in Montvale, New Jersey.

NEWARK, N.J — Motorists across New Jersey are facing a second day of enormous gas lines at those stations still with both electricity and supplies.

In the city of Newark on Thursday morning hundreds of cars stretching nearly a mile are lined up to fuel up at a Gulf station at a main road leading to the downtown.

The congestion is so bad a police officer is directing traffic at the station.

Dozens of people with red gas canisters are also waiting in a line that snakes around the station.

AAA spokeswoman Tracy Noble says two factors are to blame for the shortages and the runs on gas.

She says many stations just can't pump gas because they lack power. And fuel trucks are having trouble getting around, meaning gas shortages in many parts of the state.
