Rogue LA cop tried to hitch ride to Mexico on fishing boat during shooting spree: report

Rogue cop Christopher Jordan Dorner tried to hitch a float to Mexico halfway through his terrifying California murder spree, according to a broadcast report.

The four-time killer attempted to sweet talk San Diego fishermen in hopes one of them would give him transport to Mexico on Feb. 5 — but none of the anglers would bite.

"He kept saying he wanted to go fishing off Mexico. I said 'Mexico? That's kinda weird. You could go fishing on the bay,' " said local fisherman Jeremy Smith told KNSD, an NBC affiliate in San Diego.

Dorner, 33, did his nautical hitchhiking at a pier near Nimitz and Harbor Island Drive, offering $200 to $400 for anyone who'd give him a ride south, according to Smith.

The Navy vet and former cop told a fishy story, that he wanted to go on a Mexican trip before being deployed to Afghanistan.

At this particular pier where Dorner was fishing for transportation, many of the boats were there for repairs.

"I've been down here for 40 years and he's the first guy that came down here and asked for a ride," said fisherman Roy Sherman.

Two days before Dorner tried hooking a ride from San Diego to Mexico, he killed Cal State Fullerton assistant women's basketball coach Monica Quan and boyfriend Keith Lawrence.

Quan, 28, is the daughter of a former LAPD captain-turned-lawyer who unsuccessfully represented Dorner at his departmental hearing.

The LAPD fired Dorner, claiming he made up brutality accusations against a superior.

Dorner wrote a lengthy, online manifesto decrying the department's institutional racism and vowing violent revenge against his enemies.

Dormer was named a suspect in Quan's murder on Feb. 6, before he got into a shootout with cops in Corona, Calif., the next morning.

The killer got away before murdering defenseless Riverside police officer Michael Crain, who was stopped at a traffic light, minutes later.

After a massive manhunt, authorities finally cornered Dorner Thursday inside a cabin at Big Bear Lake, about two hours east of Los Angeles.

In his last stand, Dorner gunned down San Bernardino County Sheriff's Det. Jeremiah MacKay before his charred remains were recovered from an abandoned cabin.

Dorner had his share of supporters, who saw him as the as a whistleblower with legitimate beefs. Dozens of protesters marched on LAPD headquarters this weekend, rallying against cops who fired flammable tear gas at Dorner before his suicide.

Even Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire was fascinated by Dorner's words. He tweeted a link to Dorner's manifesto, calling it "Interesting. This is a must read !!"
