The scene of today's subway accident

A man was killed this morning after he was struck by a train on the Upper West Side, authorities said.

Cops believe the straphanger was attempting to pick up something he dropped on the tracks when he was hit by a downtown D train at the 72nd Street station near Central Park West about 6:45 a.m., police sources said.

The man died shortly after at St. Luke's Hospital, cops said. He has not been identified yet but is believed to be in his fifties.

Police say no criminality is suspected.
