Pennsylvania high school football coach Jim Wildman was attecked by a fomer player.

Maybe he wasn't happy with his playing time.

Two decades after playing high school football in western Pennsylvania, a 38-year-old man inexplicably attacked his former coach, biting his face and choking him, authorities said.

Joseph Koscinski arrived at the home of his former coach, Jim Wildman, and forced his way in around 4 p.m. on Sunday. Wildman said he didn't recognize Koscinski when he arrived "in a fit of rage," but the coach soon remembered his former player when police told him the suspect's name.

"I'm going to bite your ear off and choke you until I see blood," Wildman told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about what Koscinski was screaming.

Wildman said he did not know why he was attacked.

"When he was at my door, he didn't look anything like anyone I know," Wildman, 66, said. "He screamed a number of things that, honestly, threatening types of things, but, specifically, nothing that alluded to or gave me any indication why he was here."

Koscinski was only stopped when neighbors, including an off-duty police office, intervened, according to Sharon police Chief Mike Menster.

Wildman, a longtime coach at Sharon High School, needed 60 stitches to repair his ear from the biting attack and was released from the hospital on Monday.

Police have been unable to determine a motive for the incident and could find no other connection beyond their player-coach relationship approximately 20 years ago.

"He was coached by Coach Wildman, but that was some time ago because this gentleman is 38 years old," Menster said.

Koscinski was in custody at a hospital Monday, and police planned to charge him with aggravated assault and other crimes, Menster said.
