NFL considers suspension for Texans' Smith after he's caught on tape slamming Dolphins' Incognito with own helmet

August in the NFL rarely matters, but Houston's Antonio Smith may pay for his preseason mistake.

The league is currently considering whether the Texans defensive end will be suspended for one or more regular season games after ripping off the helmet of Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito and swinging it at his face in the teams' preseason game on Saturday, according to ESPN.com. Smith is also expected to be fined.

FOX Sports first obtained the video and aired it Monday on "Fox Football Daily."

The punishment for Smith, who was not called for a penalty during the game despite a referee standing less than 10 yards away, could be judged beyond this incident, since he was fined $21,000 last season for kicking Incognito. The penalty was eventually reduced to $11,000 after an appeal, with Smith saying it was retaliation for Incognito intentionally twisting his ankle.

When video of the violent uppercut was set to air on Monday, Incognito wanted to make sure nobody missed it.
