A TMZ cameraman had no idea what kind of scoop he was stumbling into when he asked WWE star Darren Young if a gay wrestler could be a success.
"Absolutely," he said with a laugh. "Look at me. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy."
Yesterday's low key announcement makes the 29-year-old, whose real name is Frederick Douglas Rosser, the WWE's first openly gay wrestler, and the first headliner to come out for any promotion.
Young went on to say that he hoped his coming out would make things easier for others.
"I hope so," he said. "I'm hoping to be able to make a difference. It's very important to me that people understand that someone's sexual preference shouldn't really matter. It should be about the person."
Shortly after the announcement, TMZ also caught up with WWE star John Cena to ask him about the announcement.
"I know Darren personally," he said. "Darren's a great guy. That's a very bold move for him. And congratulations for him for actually finally doing it. Good for him."
