Police investigating the fatal crash on the Bruckner Expressway.
A man was hit by a car and killed on a Bronx highway Sunday after his car broke down and he stepped out of the vehicle to check on it, authorities said.
The unidentified victim was driving on the Bruckner Expressway at around 6:30 a.m. when he had car problems and pulled off to the right before getting out to see what was wrong, cops said.
That's when the man was hit by a car driven by an off-duty sanitation worker and thrown from the elevated highway onto a lower roadway, cops said. He landed on Bruckner Boulevard near Austin place where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The driver who hit the man remained at the scene and police are investigating whether there is any criminality on the part of the driver, cops said.
