New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is vowing to learn lessons from the "Bridgegate" scandal engulfing his administration — and says his public humiliation helped make him "readier" to be president.
"I'm going to learn from this….I can't tell you yet what it is I'm going to learn. But I am intent on learning from this," Christie told Yahoo News an interview posted Monday morning.
The embattled Republican also said that while he didn't feel ready to be president in 2011, his recent experience had better prepared him for the powerful position.
"Yeah. I'm readier, if that's a word," Christie added.
Christie faces two legislative investigations and a probe by the New Jersey US Attorney's Office into a politically motivated scheme by a top aide and Port Authority appointee to jam traffic approaching the George Washington Bridge.
On Saturday, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, a Democrat, also alleged that two top state officials — including Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno — last year threatened to withhold Hurricane Sandy relief money if she didn't back a Christie-favored development plan.
Guadagno on Monday denied the claims, saying: "Mayor Zimmer's version of our conversation in May of 2013 is not only false but is illogical and does not withstand scrutiny when all of the facts are examined."
Guadagno also said that "being a Sandy victim myself makes the mayor's allegations particularly offensive to me," the Asbury Park Press reported.
