The commish is on Twitter!
Top NYPD cop Bill Bratton sent his first tweet Thursday from @CommissBratton embracing social media — something his predecessor Ray Kelly shied away from.
"Enjoyed addressing command staff at #Compstat this a.m. We invented it in '94, glad to see how far it has come," Bratton tweeted along with a photo of himself at Thursday morning's Compstat meeting.
This came directly after the NYPD's official Twitter account, @NYPDnews, live tweeted Bratton's comments from the Compstat meeting. These meetings are closed to media and the public.
"'In areas we need improvement, I am confident we can' #Compstat," Bratton said when addressing officers in the meeting.
Tweets using the hashtag #Compstat starting posting around 9 a.m. and gave an inside look at NYPD initiatives including information on collaborative policing.
Bratton, who previously served as police commissioner from 1994 to 1996, and is known for starting the Compstat program which track crimes statistics, which has been credited for reducing crime throughout the city.
"Follow me here…Great to be on Twitter. Should be the start of a beautiful relationship," he tweeted.
