Feisty pup who raced Metro-North train finds a home

The feisty pup who took on a 400-ton Metro-North train last week found a new family over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

Tie was adopted by the Miller family at Manhattan's Animal Care and Control Center on Sunday after dog-lovers sent in about 36 applications to take the brave pooch home, and over 100 inquiries were sent to the agency about her.

It was not immediately clear where the family is from.

The collie-shepherd mix had been checked by a vet for a microchip, and was then put on a stray list until Friday while Animal Care and Control searched to see if she had an owner.

Although the healthy, well-fed dog could speak, sit and shake her paw on command, no one claimed Tie, and she was put up for adoption on Friday.

Tie was then taken to her new home on Sunday.

"While we're thrilled Tie is going to a great home, we have many more dogs, cats and rabbits that still need families to call their own," said the agency's executive director, Risa Weinstock.

Two MTA cops and a Metro-North worker helped Tie get safely off the tracks at the 125th Street station on Tuesday after she ran in front of the Hudson Line train for over a mile from the Bronx to Manhattan.

The engineer saved the little dog's life after he hit the brakes twice when she fell on the railroad ties, and drove his train slowly while she trotted along the tracks.

Riders even flocked to the front of the train to see the pup after a conductor told them why it was going so slowly.

Engineer and dog owner Joseph Delia, 52, told The Post he had never seen anything like that in his 20-year career. "That's the most unusual thing," he said.
