Former NYPD cop questioned over anti-Semitic graffiti

A former cop is among several people being questioned Sunday about anti-Semitic graffiti sprayed on cars and buildings in Borough Park, sources said.

The officer, who used to work in the 68th Precinct, is being interviewed about the hate-filled messages scrawled on private property and a school building in the Hasidic neighborhood on Saturday night, sources said.

People in the community were observing the Sabbath when the anti-Semite scrawled "F— you, Jew," and other offensive and hateful statements in messy red spray-paint on about 20 cars and buildings, sources added.

Investigators have people in for questioning but police deny media reports and public statements by elected officials who have reported that the suspect has been charged.

Assemblyman Dov Hikind praised investigators and promised that the perpetrator would be punished.

"This was not a victimless crime," he said. "We have many Holocaust survivors here, many elderly people and children who are appropriately frightened by unprovoked hate attacks upon their schools and community."

Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito issued a statement, calling the crime "vile," "outrageous," and "sickening. She added that such bigotry has "no place in New York City — period."

A suspect, who appears to be an Asian man in his 30s, was captured on surveillance cameras. Investigators believe his car was caught on video as well.

The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force began working with Shomrim overnight to track down the offender.
