No pitcher is safe from injury.
In a year when several of baseball's best young pitchers have been sidelined with significant injuries, the most durable arm in baseball, that of Diamondbacks pitcher Bronson Arroyo, isn't doing much better.
The 37-year-old could be headed to the disabled list for the first time in his career after exiting Sunday's start after five innings because of elbow pain. Arroyo, who debuted in 2000, never has missed a start due to injury.
"It's just slowly sliding downhill," said Arroyo.
Arroyo has pitched at least 199 innings and made at least 32 starts every year since 2005. He missed time during spring training with back problems, and Arroyo is 7-4 with a 4.08 ERA in his first season with Arizona.
