ALBANY—The No. 2 Republican in the state Senate has been indicted by a federal grand jury for lying to the FBI.

Sen. Tom Libous (R-Binghamton) was charged with one count of giving false statements to the FBI about an investigation into the role he played in securing a job for his son with a prominent law firm in Westchester.

In the indictment unsealed Tuesday morning, Libous' son Matthew was also charged with six counts, including filing false tax returns and obstructing or impeding the IRS.

Libous and his son will be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.

The indictment was filed by the US Attorney's Office in Manhattan.
