The Yankees have demoted third baseman Yangervis Solarte to Triple-A.

The rookie has been scuffling badly since a sensational April run. The 26-year-old switch-hitter is mired in a 3-for-41 slump over his past 14 games and batting .187 since May 15 as his playing time had been reduced.

The shakeup comes as the Yankees have dropped five straight games to fall under .500 at 41-42.

Zelous Wheeler, a 27-year-old career minor leaguer, was signed to a major league deal to take Solarte's roster spot. Infielder Dean Anna was designated for assignment to make room for Wheeler on the 40-man roster.
