Police shot and wounded a man who was stabbing his girlfriend in their Bronx apartment building Sunday, after he refused to drop the weapon when cops arrived, officials said.
The 34-year-old assailant stabbed the 32-year-old woman several times at the Univeristy Heights building and continued attacking her after police ordered him to drop the 8-inch kitchen knife, according to the NYPD.
Two cops fired one shot each and struck the suspect in the torso, police said. The alleged knife-wielding man was taken to St. Barnabus Hospital, where he is expected to survive.
The attacker's live-in girlfriend suffered several stab wounds and was also rushed to St. Barnabus Hospital, where she is in stable condition.
Police recovered the knife between the second-floor landing and the lobby, where the attack occurred around 4 a.m.
The suspect has not been named because charges are still pending.
Law-enforcement sources said the man had been arrested in March of 2013 for assaulting the same victim.
