Forget Rain Man. Birthday boy Dustin Hoffman's greatest role was playing an actor playing an actress playing against gender roles on a soap opera in the 1982 film, Tootsie. Through Michael Dorsey, Hoffman was able to fully express the artistic frustrations that all struggling actors share, and through Michael's creation, Dorothy Michaels, Hoffman provided sharp commentary on the sexism that is still rampant in America. But how does the wit and wisdom of Dorothy Michaels compare to the bon mots of Meryl Streep?

Meryl Streep has long been considered one of the greatest actors of all time. She's been vocal about her craft and has repeatedly taken Hollywood to task for their misogyny and close-mindedness.
