"Saturday Night Live" is opening the vault of its four-decade library in honor of its 40th anniversary season.

Starting Sept. 27, the NBC variety show plans to air one classic show from each of the last 40 years on Saturdays at 10 p.m. in a block it's calling "SNL Vintage."

The first iconic episode is from "SNL" 's debut season in 1975 with host Richard Pryor and musical guest Gil Scott-Heron — which features the show's famous "Word Association" sketch with Pryor and Chevy Chase.

On Oct. 4, "SNL Vintage" will show an episode from Season 25 with host Christopher Walken and musical guest Christina Aguilera — the show you can thank for introducing the catchphrase "More cowbell!" unto the world.

Though NBC has not yet announced the rest of the "SNL Vintage" lineup, creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels has said the show will generally pick whichever episode was nominated for the Emmy that year .

"SNL" premieres its 40th season on Saturday with host Chris Pratt and musical guest Ariana Grande.
