CBS confirms James Corden is next ‘Late Late Show’ host

CBS has confirmed James Corden as the next host of "The Late Late Show."

The British actor and writer will take the reins of the 12:35 a.m. late​- night show next year, after Craig Ferguson ends his 10-year run in December. Corden was first reported to have nabbed the coveted job last month.

CBS will produce the new Corden-hosted "Late Late Show," whose location, producers and format are still to be determined.

"James Corden is a rare entertainment force who combines irresistible charm, warmth and originality with a diverse range of creative instincts and performance talent," said CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler. "He is the ultimate multi-hyphenate – a writer, creator and performer who is loved and respected in every medium he touches, including theater, comedy, music, film and television.

"​James is already a big star in the UK and he's wowed American audiences on Broadway; we're very excited to introduce his considerable and very unique talents to our network television audience on a daily basis."

The 36-year-old Corden is a Tony-winner for the Broadway musical "One Man, Two Guvnors" and co-starred in the UK TV series "Gavin and Stacey" and "The Wrong Mans," which is available on Hulu in the US. Also a film actor, he is currently starring opposite Keira Knightley in the film "Begin Again" and will appear as The Baker in the upcoming movie "Into the Woods."

In a statement, Corden said he was thrilled an honored to be taking over from Ferguson.

"To be asked to host such a prestigious show on America's #1 network is hugely exciting," he said. "I can't wait to get started, and will do my very best to make a show America will enjoy."
