League sources confirmed Nets have agreed to a buyout with Lawrence Frank, quietly bringing an end to a strange second stint with the franchise.
Frank is expected to head to the Clippers, where he'll work under Doc Rivers – whom he was an assistant for in Boston after being let go as head coach of the Nets. Frank will work alongside former Knicks head coach Mike Woodson, who also is joining Rivers' staff as an assistant.
Frank signed a six-year deal worth roughly $6 million with the Nets last summer to come back to the franchise that he's second in all-time wins and games coached after a sustained public campaign by then coach Jason Kidd to make Frank his lead assistant.
The partnership quickly imploded, as Kidd stunned everyone by walking into a press conference in early December and announcing Frank had been "re-assigned" to writing daily reports, and wouldn't be spending any more time around the team.
At the time, Frank hired high-powered attorney David Cornwell to try and negotiate a buyout with the Nets, but he wound up writing those reports throughout the season, and the Nets – despite at the time of his re-assignment looking like things were about to implode – eventually got things together and after a strong second half made the playoffs and lost to the Heat in five games in the second round.
