What The Decider Team Streamed This Week

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 06 September 2014 | 23.16

We spend the last month recommending plenty of great shows and movies to stream online, but what have the members of the Decider enjoyed in the last week? We'd like to share that with you, too — and tell you where to stream them, of course.

Diana

Have you ever heard a movie was really bad but decided you needed to find out just how bad? Well, I watched Diana, the biopic of Princess Di starring Naomi Watts. And woof, was this bad. Like, astoundingly bad. A total disaster. A tornado of melodrama and wigs. (Multiple! Princess Di wears a long black wig just for fun.) Needless to say, I laughed a lot during these two hours. —Tyler Coates [GoWatchIt]

Ladyhawke

Though it pains me to admit it, I started watching Ladyhawke this week on HBO Go and I did not hate it. I only got half way in, and I laughed hysterically at the terrible dialogue and synth-based soundtrack, but I do think I will go back and finish it. Sometimes you just need to watch a film about a medieval knight who turns into a wolf at night and his beloved lady who is always a hawk during the day. Also, this film features Matthew Broderick at his professional worst. It's mesmerizing. —Meghan O'Keefe [HBO Go]

The One I Love

This week reignited my Mark Duplass obsession. I attribute it to The League fever, being that Season Six premiered Wednesday night. In addition to re-binging old seasons of The League on Netflix, I watched The One I Love, starring Duplass and the angelic Elisabeth Moss, twice. It's amazing. See it as soon as you possibly can. The League

I started watching The League this week. It's the perfect combo of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Entourage with the occasional Seinfeld feel. I dig. —Jaclyn Kessel [Netflix]

Tumble Leaf

My wife and I have a general rule not to let our 1-year-old son watch TV, but I think I'm going to make an exception for Tumble Leaf. It features some of the most visually gorgeous stop-motion animation you'll ever see, and I cannot emphasize enough just how chill the show's entirely musical vibe will make you (and your child!) feel. Seven brand-new episodes just debuted on Amazon Prime this week, just in time for a Saturday morning marathon. —Mark Graham [Amazon Instant Video]

Project Runway

This week I streamed the latest episode of Project Runway, featuring guest judge Dita Von Teese. The episode's team challenge was to create an alternative wedding dress and an after-party dress to go with it. I love team challenges on Project Runway, as it's one of the only chances for major drama in the show, and when it's there, it's in your face even more than the enormous applique flower Tim Gunn demanded designer Samantha to take off her dress immediately.

The most surprising thing about this episode to me were the construction errors. This is the big time for designers, isn't it? The losing team found themselves in the bottom not only because they chose to make similar putrid yellow leather, lace, and chiffon numbers, but also because the results looked like what would happen if you tried to make a skirt out of Post It note toilet paper. We saw hemlines, we saw puckering, we saw butt cheek, it was not pretty. Although her dress was clearly "worse," I felt losing designer Charkeeta should have stayed and her partner, Sandhya (the brains of the operation) should have gone home. The winning team's looks: Kini's gorgeous suit dress and Sean's stunning feminine tuxedo was beyond fabulous, even getting von Teese to say she would wear it…if she ever wore pants.  —Terri Ciccone [Hulu]

The Leftovers

Like a lot of people, I've had problems with The Leftovers. I wanted to like it. Unfortunately the first episode was a total piece of WTF. Then the second episode was boring. But the third episode? Not so shabby!

It's not easy binge-watching such a brutal downer of a show but this week I watched four episodes in order to prepare myself for Sunday's season finale, for which I now cannot wait. If you're interested in The Leftovers but way behind, I highly recommend my colleague Olivia Armstrong's recommendations on which episodes to stream, and which to skip — she got it precisely right. —Conrad Doucette [HBO Go]
