3 things you didn’t know about the ‘Ghostbusters’ theme song

It doesn't matter how many Halloween parties you've been to, "Ghostbusters" has probably been played at all of them. To mark the 30th anniversary of the movie that inspired the song, the "Ghostbusters" soundtrack was just reissued on marshmallow-scented vinyl. Here are three things you probably didn't know about the funkiest song about ghosts, ever.

1. Huey Lewis is not a fan. The song made Ray Parker Jr. famous, but, originally, Lewis was in line to write the theme. He pulled out — then sued Parker for plagiarism, claiming "Ghostbusters" was too similar to Lewis' hit "I Want a New Drug." The two settled out of court.

2. Michael Jackson destroyed it. Despite reaching the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts back in 1984, the song is not No. 1 for trick-or-treaters. According to the song-recognition app Shazam, "Ghostbusters" is their second-most identified tune of the Halloween season — after Jackson's "Thriller."

3. Bill Murray can't shake it. The track has been covered by everyone from Hoobastank to Conor Oberst. But the most legendary tribute was by the band MGMT: At a Halloween concert in 2008, the duo had the privilege of playing it for Dr. Venkman himself, Bill Murray, who happened to be at the Brooklyn show.
