Stream Cheers

For a solid 25 years, NBC ruled over Thursday nights and reigned over sitcoms with their "Must See TV" line ups. Between 1982 and 2006, NBC's 8pm-10pm Thursday night schedule boasts such classic sitcoms as The Cosby Show, Cheers, Seinfeld, Friends, and The Office, as well as lesser known outliers like Veronica's Closet, The Single Guy, and Boston Common.
Nobody does comedy like NBC used to, but thanks to streaming, you can catch a classic night of NBC Must See TV comedy any Thursday you want.
Enter Decider's Must See #TBT. Every Thursday, we'll focus on a specific time period (or theme) and deliver a custom Must See TV line up. This week we wanted to pay tribute to the funny ways in which our favorite sitcoms tackled the idea of beauty. Cheers, Family Ties, Friends, and Parks and Recreation have all used beauty pageants and modeling competitions as gags, plot devices, and opportunities to comment on feminist issues.
Cheers
Season 1, Episode 18: "No Contest"
Original Air Date: February 17, 1983
Diane Chambers (Shelley Long) always took the moral and philosophical high ground on Cheers. And so, when the bar signed her up for a misogynistic beauty pageant, Diane was completely ready to sabotage her chances in the name of feminism — until she found out what the prize was.

Family Ties
Season 2, Episode 4: "This Year's Model"
Original Air Date: October 26, 1983
Mallory (Justine Bateman) is always remembered as the "pretty" Keaton, and in this episode, she tried to capitalize off of that in a local modeling competition. However, her biggest competition turns out to be her mother (Meredith Baxter-Birney). This episode is not only sweet, but it features some hilarious modeling shoot scenes. Oh, and you get to see Alex (Michael J. Fox) try to chat up a gorgeous contestant.

Friends
Season 10, Episode 8: "The One With The Late Thanksgiving"
Original Air Date: November 20, 2003
Few sitcom episodes inspire as much love as the Friends Thanksgiving episodes, and the very last one involves a subplot with a baby beauty pageant. Phoebe and Rachel decide to be late for Thanksgiving so baby Emma can compete in a pageant. However, things get sticky when the guys try to bail out on the feast, too.

Parks and Recreation
Season 2, Episode 3: "Beauty Pageant"
Original Air Date: October 1, 2009
Season 2 of Parks and Recreation saw Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) transform from a passionate, if scattered, public servant into a lovable feminist icon. "Beauty Pageant" was one of the first episodes that let Leslie show off her idealism in hilarious ways. Leslie is tasked with judging a beauty pageant and is aghast when the panel favors a pretty bimbo over a smart and sweet girl.
