Today marks National Meth Awareness Day in the United States, and in honor of the holiday, we couldn't help but curate a list of the very best, most definitive episodes of Vince Gilligan's Breaking Bad.

With more government focus on the war on drugs than ever, Breaking Bad humanized the other side of the law in a way the media landscape had never seen. The Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning series closed up shop last fall, but it made its mark as one of the greatest television dramas of all time — sure to be studied and analyzed on a biblical level for years to come.

After five powerful seasons, creator Vince Gilligan and his incredible cast gave us some of the most intense, maddening episodes in TV history. Here are ten essential picks from the series we'll never forget.

10

"Bit By a Dead Bee": Season 2, Episode 3

Sure, this might be on the lower end of the meth action-adventure spectrum, but Walt's (Bryan Cranston) monologue in this episode is of the most poignant and definitive of the entire series. After he and Jesse (Aaron Paul) set up the perfect murder of Tuco, Walt fakes temporary insanity to his friends and family, but confides in the psychologist as to what really happened just so he can get out of the hospital and get back to work. [Where to stream "Bit By a Dead Bee"]

"Crawl Space": Season 4, Episode 11

Skyler's (Anna Gunn) money issues with Ted reach a standstill when she sends Saul's (Bob Odenkirk) thugs to force him to write a check to the IRS to clear Skyler's name of illicit gambling. This ends swimmingly for the IRS, but certainly not Ted, who paralyzes himself and gets Skyler in a crap load of trouble with Walt, who makes the fatal mistake of showing her his crawl space stash. Had she not lent Ted that money in the first place, who knows if Walt would have ever felt the need to keep cooking. [Where to stream "Crawl Space"]

8

"Fly": Season 3, Episode 10

Though you can't help but laugh at Walt's desperation to kill the lab's "contaminate" with his homemade swatter, the growing concern of purity of their freshest batch soon outweigh the dark humor. Ever think you'd be so worried about a batch of meth? [Where to stream "Say My Name"]

7

"Cornered": Season 4, Episode 6

The perennial episode that sets the tone for the rest of Walt's relationship with Skyler. She dares to question his knowledge and ability to keep up with the drug cartel, to which he so famously carves her out to a shell of the woman and wife she thought she was, stating, "I am the danger." [Where to stream "Cornered"]

6

"Full Measure": Season 3, Episode 13

Though Jesse's loyalty to Walt is torn throughout all of Season Three, he steps up not only as a protégé and partner but also as a pseudo son. Gale (David Costabile), however, an innocent player in the meth game, unfortunately has to suffer the consequences of a much larger operation. [Where to stream "Full Measure"]

5

"Gliding Over All": Season 5, Episode 8

If only Walt had removed that Walt Whitman book from the bathroom reading basket, Hank (Dean Norris) would have never gotten as close to the meth operation that had been happening right under his nose for years. "To W.W. from G.B." seals everyone's fate in the final episodes of the series. [Where to stream "Gliding Over All"]

4

"Phoenix": Season 2, Episode 12

After Skyler gives birth to a baby girl, the celebration is bittersweet when Walt chooses to let Jane (Krysten Ritter) overdose beside a sleeping Jesse. Walt can easily save her life, but instead see her as a cog in his and Jesse's partnership. [Where to stream "Phoenix"]

3

"Ozymandias": Season 5, Episode 14

From start to finish, this wrenching episode leaves you on edge, breathless, but most of all, pissed off and heartbroken. Jack shoots Hank to death, Walt gives up his life savings to Jack's crew, and Jesse is kidnapped as collateral. [Where to stream "Ozymandias"]

2

"Face Off": Season 4, Episode 13

This is the episode you most likely know everything about, even before you took the time to binge through the series. You probably know that just as you thought everyone would make it out of that nursing home room alive, the camera panned to Gus' face… or what was left of it. And you know that even if you saw it coming, you still sat there in shock. [Where to stream "Face Off"]

1

"Felina": Season 5, Episode 16

Unlike other major finales (ahem, The Sopranos), Vince Gilligan manages to poignantly end his series the way fans wanted to say goodbye to Walter White. His family's future is secure, just as he had wanted, but he dies with dignity in the place that gave him a second chance at life after his cancer diagnosis: the lab. [Where to stream "Felina"]
