Five free agents to keep an eye on for the Mets:
Alex Rios: After a sluggish year for the Rangers (who declined his $13.5 million option), he hired Scott Boras as his new agent. The Mets could take a gamble on him.
Asdrubal Cabrera: He played second base down the stretch for the Nationals, but has plenty of shortstop experience and would give the Mets a veteran presence to supplement Wilmer Flores and Ruben Tejada.
Colby Rasmus: He hit 18 home runs in 346 at-bats for the Blue Jays, but would have to shift from center to a corner-outfield position. In 2013 he had a .840 OPS, but he's a lefty hitter, and the Mets would prefer a right-handed bat.
Michael Morse: The Mets took a pass on him last winter — his low on-base percentage was a concern — but could reconsider after watching him emerge as a key contributor in the Giants' world championship run.
Jed Lowrie: The veteran shortstop had a big drop in production this season for Oakland, but would likely be a safer bet than Tejada or Flores.
