More than 3,000 workers at Atlantic City's Trump Taj Mahal casino will lose their jobs on Dec. 20 — five days before Christmas — if a deal isn't reached to save the embattled casino, the casino said Friday.

Employee hours will begin to be cut as the date moves closer — and ultimately the lights will go off for good, the company said in an amended WARN notice sent to employees.

The 25-year old casino hotel had been scheduled to close on Dec. 12 but the date was pushed back to give the bankrupt Trump Entertainment and would-be savior Carl Icahn — along with state officials — more time to hammer out a deal.

It says it is engaged in a "last-ditch" effort to remain open.

If the talks fail, the Taj would be the fifth of Atlantic City's 12 casinos to go out of business this year, leaving a total of 11,000 workers without jobs.
