Fashion elite freak over astrologist’s unexpected absence

On the morning of Dec. 1, as the rest of the world pounced on Cyber Monday deals, Dawn Del Russo logged on for her spiritual manna — monthly horoscopes by reigning cosmic queen Susan Miller.

"I woke up, made my morning tea and immediately checked my phone," explains Del Russo, a Union, NJ-based style expert. But her hopes were quickly dashed. There was no December horoscope for the Taurus at astrologyzone.com. Instead, a lengthy account of Miller's daily nausea, persistent anemia and upcoming medical treatments appeared.

A despairing Del Russo lost it.

"I've been reading her — I can't tell you how many years. I was telling my friend, 'I can't believe the horoscopes aren't up — I just can't believe it,' " recalls the 35-year-old.

The fashionista isn't the only one who relies heavily on Miller's celebrated forecasts and her 19-year-old website. Some 6 million fans — including fashion bigwigs like designer Cynthia Rowley, Yahoo Style editor-in-chief Joe Zee and publicist Kelly Cutrone — count on Miller's predictions. Her empire includes nine books, worldwide syndication, countless speaking engagements, prized advertising on her site and a new show to debut on Hulu next month.

But Miller has been plagued by health issues much of this year, causing her to be days and even weeks late been posting her monthly horoscopes (each sign is 4,000 words long). The tardiness has sent her followers into a cosmic tailspin.

Miller, who says she suffers from an auto-immune disorder, has sought to explain her health issues to her followers, but some of her crazed fans aren't exactly sympathetic to her plight.

"People are not dumb. How it is possible to have another excuse every month?" vents exasperated Upper East Side energy healer and life coach, Leda Beluche. "It's become too hard to wait a week or two for everything to be launched. When you decide to be a public servant, you need to honor that."

Some followers have taken to social media with their freakouts.

"Many [people] have struggles — and still have to do their work on time," Diane Collett Greenblatt, a healer from Cherry Hill, NJ, fumed on Facebook earlier this month. "I am a loving person yet constant whining as to why your work is late makes no sense. We all have something and I don't honor your continual lateness — frankly you are always late."

Miller is taking the hysteria in stride.

"I know they're just disappointed, and I keep reminding myself it's not me they're mad at," the 67-year-old tells The Post.

"When you're running anything, consistency is so important. I really feel like I have a friendship with the readers, but you have to read the criticism. We have a motto: 'The reader is never crazy.'"

If not crazy, they can certainly come across as desperate.

Del Russo is sympathetic to her guru's troubles, but she's really counting on Miller to stop with the tardiness. She plans her life around Miller's predictions.

Last year around October, Del Russo's horoscope read that an eleventh-hour trip abroad was in her future.

She initially balked.

"I thought, 'No way, the holidays are coming up.' It wasn't something I was going to do. Then, out of the blue, I booked a trip a few weeks later to London for Thanksgiving."

She admits there might be a self-fulfilling prophecy at play.

"I'll always question it and wonder — am I making it a good or bad day just because Susan said it?"

Whatever the case, Miller seems to be getting back on track. She posted this month's horoscopes just a few days late — on Dec. 3 — and implied that her troubles were behind her.

"A lot of my clients have switched over to the AstroTwins," sniffs Beluche, naming a rival astrology team quickly currying favor with the fashion set. "They have lives to plan — they can't wait."
