“Historic blizzard” turns out to be a dud

The Big Apple's "historic blizzard" of 2015 turned out to be a dud as city life quickly returned to normal on Tuesday — despite intimidating forecasts which predicted record-breaking snowfall.

"This was nothing like we feared it would be," Mayor de Blasio said Tuesday on CNN. "But we have to be prepared. If we had been hit with two feet of snow, we would've been ready."

"This is a better safe than sorry scenario," he added. "We've dodged the bullet."

The powerful No'reaster that was forecast to dump loads of snow overnight Monday into Tuesday, instead "grazed" New York City — dropping only about four to six inches of the stuff, officials said.

"This was a very expensive exercise," Governor Cuomo said during a press conference on Tuesday. "The predictions that we acted on, obviously in this region, there was less snow than anticipated. But because the roads were empty, the system will come back online much faster than it would have."

As of 8 am Tuesday, all travel bans had been lifted in coordination with New Jersey and Connecticut officials, Cuomo said, adding that people should remain cautious throughout the day.

"The roads are still dangerous," he insisted. "If you don't have to travel today you really don't want to be traveling. The roads, while passable, aren't clear. We don't want to give people a false sense of security."

Since a travel ban was implemented at 11 p.m. on Monday, Cuomo said plow trucks were able to easily clear the roads, which would have otherwise been packed with cars.

"If you tally it up, I don't know if this wasn't the more proven course of action in any event," he explained. "It may have brought us back to full operating capacity sooner."

The winter storm — which didn't even crack the top five record snowfalls in New York City history — had set its sights on the metropolitan area over the weekend has officials began preparing for the worst.

"I think the decision to air on the side of caution has put us in a position where the system will come back online more quickly," he said. "We consider all the scenarios all day long. I would rather, if there is a lean one way or another…lean towards safety."

"I've seen he consequences the other way, and it gets very frightening very quickly," the Governor added. "We have people die in storms. I much rather be in a situation where we say we got lucky than saying we didn't get lucky and somebody dying."
