In my library: James Patterson

To call James Patterson "prolific" is tantamount to saying McDonald's sells a lot of burgers. Writing solo and with co-writers, he's published 95 novels that have sold a total of 300 million copies.

He's best known for his books featuring forensic psychologist Alex Cross, the titles of which sound familiar, with good reason: "The original title of my first Alex Cross book, 'Along Came a Spider,' was 'Remember Maggie Rose,' "

Patterson tells The Post. "My editor didn't love that title. I had the idea for 'Along Came a Spider.' It seemed it would be easy for people to remember nursery rhymes and then associate them with my books." He has two out Jan. 26: "Private Vegas" and a middle-schooler book, "I Totally Funniest."

Here's what's in Patterson's library:

In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette by Hampton Sides

Didn't expect to get so wrapped up in this tale of a 19th century US naval expedition to the North Pole. It's an icy saga that's part Arctic history, part at-sea thriller and 100 percent true. Without a doubt, one of my favorite reads of 2014.

Personal by Lee Child

Jack Reacher and I have a long history — I've read every book in this series. In this [installment], Reacher is forced out of retirement after an assassination attempt on the French president. Set throughout Paris and London, the story is explosive and thrilling. Child is still hitting it out of the park.

Even This I Get to Experience by Norman Lear

Lear [creator of "All in the Family" and "Maude"] is one of the great storytellers of our time and this memoir hammers that point home. He covers his 92 years as a trailblazer yet still manages to be candid and charming. This book should be required reading for everyone working in Hollywood.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

A great book — one of my all-time favorites — about a young girl living in Nazi Germany. I reread it recently in anticipation of the film adaptation. As is typical, Hollywood didn't do the source material justice. But I'm passionate about families reading together, and this is a great book for parents to read and discuss with their kids.
