Is ‘Sex and the City’ coming back?

Sex and the City fans could be in for a treat if new rumors about the iconic show's possible return to television are true.

Fans went into a tailspin late last year after the show's stars fueled online rumors about a third movie based on the series that dominated television sets in the late 90s.

John Corbett, who played Aidan in the series recently told MTV he would be prepared to reprise his former role if either a movie or revived television series were launched.

"I don't think there's space for old Aidan, but I would come back in a heartbeat," he told MTV.

"I wish HBO would do a limited-run series with them — just bring it back to where it all started."

Corbett said he'd love to see Aidan and Carrie in scenes set in Italy.

"I hope they do it," he said.

"Selfishly, I'd like to see all of those girls together again."

As it turns out, that idea could actually happen.

Sex and the City boss Michael Patrick King told EOnline that, in the current world of television, anything was possible and "all bets are off".

He said with HBO recently supporting television revivals, Sex and the City could have a chance of returning to television as a new series.'

"As far as Sex and the City goes, the mere fact that it is still so alive, and not just on the gym TVs, not just on the Precor, but that people are still wondering about these girls, you never know," King said.

"It could come back at some point."

Kim Cattrall, who played the infamous Samantha Jones in the series, told Grazia she thought it would be a wonderful reunion.

"When we do get together it feels like no time has passed and we've always had that great chemistry," she said.

The comments came as months of speculation swirled around the internet that the ladies of New York City would reunite.

The rumors were fueled by a series of tweets between Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis.

After Davis tweeted that she missed Parker, she replied: "Me too you! Heard the news? X."

Davis replied: "Yyyeessssss … But I'm afraid to get TOO excited yet — You let me know when we can celebrate. XO."

And there was as also this curious post on Instagram.

It was a snap of herself sitting on Carrie's stoop.

Last year Chris Noth, who played Big in the original series and both movies told news.com.au: "I can't believe those girls are tweeting, they're being very naughty. I don't go near Twitter, it's all bulls**t.

"I'll believe it when they say 'Action!' and until then I don't pay any attention."

The original television series was broadcast in from 1998 until 2004 and was based on the book by Candace Bushnell. It followed the lives of fictional characters Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon).
