It's the spiritual heir to Mark Sanchez's Buttfumble, a hard-to-believe, point-and-laugh quarterback turnover in a nationally televised holiday football game.
Jameis Winston gave the world an all-time goof in Florida State's 59-20 Rose Bowl loss to Oregon on Thursday in the first College Football Playoff semifinal. On a fourth-down play in the second half, Winston rolled out of the pocket, dodged two tackles and then, as he wound up to throw, his feet slipped and the ball popped backward over his head in a comical arc, the fumble to be returned for a game-sealing Ducks touchdown.
"I was just trying to make a play," Winston said. "I should have got the ball in my hands earlier. Just — it was just an unfortunate play, man. I never thought that I would slip, throw the ball backwards."
"Fumble State University" became a trending topic on Twitter, and Photoshop gurus sprang into action to immortalize the blunder.
"It was kind of like he slipped on a banana, like in a cartoon," Oregon linebacker Torrodney Prevot said.
