Woody Allen has signed on to create his first TV series — with Amazon.
The streaming service has ordered a full season of Allen's half-hour untitled project, for which he will write and direct all the episodes. The series — whose cast is to be announced — will premiere on Amazon's Prime Instant Video next year.
Allen has directed 45 films, with an extensive resume that includes "Annie Hall," "Hannah and Her Sisters" and "Midnight in Paris." He has won five Oscars and two Golden Globe Awards in his 50-year career.
His series comes two days after Amazon won its first Golden Globe for "Transparent," a dramedy about a transgender woman (played by Jeffrey Tambor). "Untitled Woody Allen Project" will join that show, as well as other originals "Mozart in the Jungle" and "Alpha House" on Amazon's programming slate.
"I don't know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I'm not sure where to begin," Allen said in a statement. "My guess is that [Amazon Studios VP] Roy Price will regret this."
