A couple who tied the knot after surviving the horrors of the Boston Marathon bombing together have separated after 10 months of marriage, according to People.
Just weeks before the first anniversary of the terror attack, Rebekah Gregory and Pete DiMartino wed in a storybook ceremony furnished by wedding planning website TheKnot.com, according to People.
Gregory broke the news of the split in a statement to the magazine.
"After the decision was made to amputate my leg in November, I found myself having to make an even more painful choice — to separate from my husband Pete," Gregory said.
"Over the last several months, I've come to realize that going through such a horrific event together put a fast-forward on our relationship that we each handled differently."
Gregory, who has a 7-year-old son from a previous relationship, added, "While my heart is beyond broken, I have a certain peace knowing from day one, I truly gave it my all, and have been fully invested in keeping this marriage, and my commitment before God."
"I still love Pete with all of my heart and ask that everyone respect our privacy as we try to figure out our next steps," she said.
The Asheville, North Carolina couple were waiting for DiMartino's mother to cross the finish line on April 15, 2013, when a pair of pressure cooker bombs ripped through the throngs of onlookers.
Three people were killed, and hundreds more wounded, including the couple.
Gregory, now 27, suffered severe injuries to her left leg, and doctors were forced to amputate the limb after she underwent 17 surgeries to try to save it, People reported.
DiMartino, 30, lost 90% of his Achilles tendon to shrapnel, and also suffered a ruptured eardrum.
DiMartino has yet to comment on the break-up.
