Who was the big winner on Oscar night? Believe it or not, it wasn't Best Actress winner Julianne Moore, and it wasn't Birdman writer-director Alejandro González Iñárritu. The Oscars MVP was the mysterious red hooded woman who photobombed ABC's red carpet coverage. This modern day Little Red Riding Hood's name is Alyssa Shiller and according to her, "there's a lot more to Little Red Riding Hood than people understand."
Shiller is a student at Elon University and she's currently studying communications in Los Angeles as a sort of "study abroad program." She mentioned that she got entree into Hollywood's biggest night through simple college networking. "We had an Elon alum out here who got us the hook up."
When we spoke to Shiller on the phone, she was all business. "People should know the truth about Little Red Riding Hood. She's someone of talent and more than just a silly face in the background." And how did she pop up in the Oscar telecast background? What great spark of inspiration came over her being and compelled her to pop up and wave in the background?
"I mean, I was just being myself," she explained. "Legally Blonde is my favorite movie and I've seen it a million times. So, when I saw [Reese Witherspoon], I kind of freaked out. Of course, I want her to notice me and I think that this was a good way to get her to notice me."
Shiller says that the whole "Little Red Riding Hood" persona "happened naturally." She said, "I mean, this is my favorite Michael Kors coat and it just kind of worked that way." Shiller has aspirations to be a model and shared images from a recent photo shoot with us.
Shiller had one final message she wanted to share: "I want to say, Reese Witherspoon, I love you, but I wanted to share the limelight and get some of the publicity, too." Shiller never mentioned recognizing the other celebrity she photobombed, Taya Kyle, the widow of the real life American Sniper.
