Old white men give the Oscars

The Oscar race. Bloggers, bookies and opinion-makers mean nada. Everything sifts through the gizzards of Hollywood's 6,000 65-year-old left-leaning white male Jewish geezer voters:

British Eddie Redmayne and "The Theory of Everything" won BAFTA. Motherland support was huge. Eddie copped eight newspaper covers, two with co-star Felicity Jones. Redmayne in his velvet Armani alongside crumpled Stephen Hawking was mind-altering. Having won SAG and a Tony for "Red," he's now filming another breakout role, that of a transgender female in "The Danish Girl." Odds are next year he wins for "The Danish Girl."

Sunday, age 33, his youth's against grabbing Best Actor.

LA's AARP segment has Best Actor sympathy for 60ish Michael Keaton. But. One caveat. If "Birdman" wins Picture, Redmayne could slide into home plate.

Take it to the bank shoo-ins: Keira Knightley's treasured — but Best Actress is Julianne Moore for her body of work. Supporting, J.K. Simmons. An applaud for his career. Supporting, Patricia Arquette. Everyone of them has won everything. Vegas even picks them.

Best Picture? Crap shoot. Republicans loved "Sniper"; Democrats loved "Selma." Wild card "American Sniper" slid in too late to massage the voters? "Grand Hotel Budapest" arrived too early so viewers forgot? "Boyhood," a simple passage of time, not stylized enough? The drums are beating "Birdman."

Adapted Screenplay: "Whiplash," by young Harvard grad Damien Chazelle. Or Jason Hall, who adapted Chris Kyle's book "American Sniper." ABC's weaseling into the act now by promoting its news coverage of the "American Sniper" trial. Might spark their ratings, won't push the movie.

Best Screenplay: The academy's buddies need something for director Wes Anderson so maybe "Budapest Hotel." Last year the Ol' Boys Network awarded it to Spike Jonze for "Her."

Editing: "Birdman," no. It looks like one long take. "Boyhood" because all those years, all that film, all that time, all that effort.

Cinematography: "Birdman" for originality.

Director: Richard Linklater for "Boyhood;" Alejandro Iñárritu for "Birdman."

We who adored Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Imitation Game" hear politically incorrect remarks might've interfered. I don't know that. I only repeat the gossip.

Foreign Film. Mauritania's "Timbuktu" — distributed by NYC's own Cohen Media — ran high but sentiment favors Poland's "Ida." Best doc: "Citizenfour" about Edward Snowden. "Virunga" about the depletion of mountain gorillas has a shot because it's Leonardo DiCaprio's production.

Per the "Guys and Dolls" song: "More I Cannot Wish [or Tell] You."

Here's what they're telling me

Their night off Jake Gyllenhaal and co-star Ruth Wilson co-starred in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" audience . . . Where's Billy Crudup been? Jury duty . . . Penguin's publishing "Eliot Ness: The Rise and Fall of an American Hero." Ness cleaned up Capone and Chicago. Temporarily, anyway . . . Commissioner Bill Bratton borrowing the A-1 Uniondale High School choir from my Christ Church's December Blessing of the Animals.

Odds & ends

Reese Witherspoon's moving. Her own production operation has projects set to go . . . Helen Mirren and Mike Bloomberg need honors as much as Meryl Streep does. Mirren gets another March 2, Waldorf, Roundabout Theatre Company; Mike's is May 11, Marriott Marquis . . . "Whiplash" producers: "J.K. Simmons' role is sadistic, but, still, he looks at the world and sees how it's supposed to be." OK.

Spike Lee to "Selma" director Ava DuVernay for getting no Oscar nom: "F - - k 'em."

Only from New York mouth Spike Lee, kids, only from New York mouth Spike Lee.
