The 34-year-old man spotted officers in an unmarked car patrolling Nassau and Bridge streets around 1 a.m. and whipped out a semi-automatic pistol, source said.
The criminal then ditched the pal he had been walking with and ran, prompting the officers, who were searching the area after reports of a gunman at the location, to chase him.
The man, who is on parole for life after being convicted as a juvenile of murder in the early 1990s, was shot once in the lower torso and his arm was grazed by another bullet after he ignored police orders to drop the gun, the NYPD said.
He was rushed to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. Police recovered a Star Eibar .45 semi-automatic gun from the scene. Charges are pending.
