UConn's inevitable victory over Notre Dame in Tuesday night's NCAA women's basketball championship game was the program's 10th — one for the other thumb. Here are six stats that sum up the Huskies' tyranny of the sport under coach Geno Auriemma:
1. Auriemma is 10-0 in national championship games.
2. With an 11th title, UConn would eclipse John Wooden's UCLA Bruins and their 10 championships.
3. He has won his titles over a 20-year span. No other team in major American sports has more than five during that time. (Wooden won 10 in 12 years, though.)
4. The Huskies have gone undefeated in five of their 10 championship campaigns.
5. Junior Breanna Stewart earned most outstanding player of the Final Four for the third time, making her the first woman to achieve that fear. (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, then UCLA's Lew Alcindor, was the only men's player to do it.) Stewart can win an unprecedented fourth consecutive crown next season.
6. The Huskies could have lost the final by 192 points and still set the Division I record for largest single-season scoring margin (via ESPN).
7. In winning these three straight national titles, UConn has won 85 of its past 86 games, with the only loss coming to Stanford in overtime this season.
8. But, yawn! The team won 90 straight between 2008-10 — a streak also stopped by Stanford.
