Stanford edged Miami 66-64 on Thursday night in the NIT final, and Michael Irvin was on the edge of losing his mind.
The former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, a famous product of "the U," was gesticulating up a storm in his Madison Square Garden seat, living and dying with each Hurricanes possession.
The short-handed Hurricanes had rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to force OT and led 64-61 with less than a minute left. Sheldon McClellan's double-pumping 3-point attempt that would have won it at the buzzer wasn't close to going in.
After the tough loss, Irvin expressed his admiration for the runners-up:
