With the release of '42' on Friday and the 66th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball approaching, Steiner Sports announced that a rare Robinson item will be up for auction next month.
A glove Robinson used during the 1955 and 1956 World Series is set to go on auction on May 1, after the baseball artifact was discovered in a New York City garage as well as one of Robinson's bats. The glove is believed to be the only Robinson one in existence.
The item was authenticated by Dennis Esken, one of the industry's respected authenticators.

"The glove shows extensive wear and aging on the leather attributed to three years of use," Esken said. "The photo match and the ability to see the Rawlings labels aided me in getting the exact date of the glove. One of the highlights in this BD model glove is Jackie's iconic jersey number '42' written in black felt tip on the intact wrist strap also, signifying that this glove belonged to him as proven by the '42' pictured in the photo match."
Robinson played for ten seasons after making his debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947. In his career Robinson compiled a .311 batting average, was a six-time All-Star and won the Rookie of the Year award (1947) as well as the batting title and National League MVP award in 1949.
The auction will run from May 1 through June 2.
