An emotional Robin Roberts accepted the Arthur Ashe award for courage at the ESPY's last night.
The "Good Morning America" anchor was given a moving tribute that included a video introduction from First Lady Michelle Obama at the annual awards ceremony.
Roberts – who was a star athlete in her youth before joining ESPN as its first black female sportscaster – was awarded for her inspiring career and for informing the public of her battle against breast cancer and myelodysplastic syndrome.
The longtime broadcast journalist thanked her family, friends, doctors, nurses and the public for their support during her treatment, as she accepted her award on stage.

A gracious Roberts told the crowd, "I realize there are many worthy of holding this honor – others who have exhibited far more courage, strength and resilience."
Roberts had undergone treatment for breast cancer in 2007 and a bone marrow transplant to treat her rare blood disorder.
She was smiling through her acceptance speech but choked up twice. First, when she mentioned her older sister, Sally-Ann Roberts, who donated her bone marrow, and second, when she mentioned former basketball coach and broadcaster Jimmy Valvano, who died of cancer just weeks before he accepted the first Arthur Ashe award.
Roberts received a huge standing ovation as NBA star LeBron James presented her the award.
"When we feel like we have diversity that hits us, and we start to think 'I can't' or 'It's too hard,' or 'we can't do it,' let's just think about this moment," said James onstage, who called Roberts the "most beautiful and strong woman he's been around."
Previous recipients of the prestigious award include Muhammad Ali, Billie Jean King and Nelson Mandela.
