Teenage volunteers who had acid hurled in their faces in Zanzibar suffered "horrific" burns "beyond imagination," according to the girls' parents.
Katie Gee and Kirstie Trup, both 18, have arrived back in London after the attack on the Indian Ocean island and were taken away in ambulances.
The teenagers were attacked by two men on a motorbike as they walked through the historic capital Stone Town on Wednesday night, according to Sky News.
The acid was splashed over their faces, chests, backs and hands.
As photos emerged purportedly of Gee's injuries, her father Jeremy Gee told the Daily Mail: "The level of burns are beyond imagination."
Her mother Nicky Gee told Sky News her daughter had suffered burns to her "whole face and her whole body" in the "vicious attack".
Trup who also suffered burns was said to be "inconsolable".
The young women, who are from north London and were planning to start university in the autumn, were enjoying the last week of a trip as volunteer teachers to the predominantly Muslim island.
Two men have been detained over the attack.
