What Were The Hottest Moments On â€˜Outlander,â€™ Season 1, Episode 6: â€œThe Garrison Commanderâ€?

You can't say we didn't warn you. We told you that you'd be obsessed with Outlander. So, from now on, we're going to be recapping every episode of Outlander, but we're going to cut to the chase. We're not going to give you treatises on what's historically accurate or ruminate what an awesome female character Claire (Caitriona Balfe) is. We're not even going to debate who is hotter: Jamie (Sam Heughan) or Frank (Tobias Menzies). We're going to keep it simple and answer your three burning questions:

1) Did Claire & Jamie Bone Yet?

No, they did not. But we did learn there are black people in 1740s Scotland.

That said, "The Garrison Commander" is one of the best episodes of Outlander so far. For most of the episode, Claire is trapped in a room with Captain "Black Jack" Randall (also played by Tobias Menzies). They have a tense tete-a-tete and Randall reveals his side of the story in regards to Jamie's whipping. In a strange way, Captain Randall's version of events both humanize the villain and make him seem all the more twisted. Tobias Menzies is absolutely spell-binding throughout the episode.

2) What Were The 3 Hottest Moments?

We got a very sexy flashback to Claire and Frank's 1940s married life. She gives him a close shave, he makes out with her, and the whole thing is meant to provide a creepy contrast to Black Jack Randall.

Jamie was forced to remove his shirt again. Poor baby.

While Claire and Jamie have not hooked up yet, the episode ended with a promise of a hookup. The two are going to be married so that the British can't take Claire away from the MacKenzies. Jamie doesn't mind that Claire isn't a virgin, but he reveals that he is. Claire's face says it all.

3) What Were The Not-So-Hot Scenes?

You guys, there were so many disturbing things in this episode. We finally got to see Black Jack give Jamie his infamous whipping and it was worse that we could have possibly imagined. It's prolonged and brutal. This is just a tiny taste:

One of the things that we learned is that Randall is now fixated on Jamie. In the book — which I have read, but I am trying my best not to spoil y'all — we learn that Captain Randall has an unrequited sexual fixation on Jamie. The show teases this during the whipping scene.

If all that wasn't bad enough, Randall turns on Claire and asks a petty officer to kick her while she's down.

Captain Randall is not a very nice man.

In Conclusion…

Dougal bursts in the room and saves Claire before things get dire. After he's convinced that she is not in fact an English spy, he puts her up to marrying Jamie. Which means…. DRUMROLL PLEASE…. Next week, Claire and Jamie are finally going to bang.

If only they seemed more excited about it…
