President Obama, voting early in Chicago in the midterm election Monday, was confronted by a voter who teasingly warned him, "Mr. President, don't touch my girlfriend!"
A smiling Obama quipped back, "I really wasn't planning on it," according to The Hill.
A mortified Aia Cooper, the fiancee of instigator Mike Jones, apologized for her boyfriend's behavior.
"I am sorry, please excuse him. … I can't believe Mike, he is such a fool," she said.
The commander-in-chief joked that Jones was "an example of a brother just embarrassing me for no reason whatsoever," but said the couple would at least have a story for their friends and family.
"It was so silent in there and everyone was just taking pictures, I figured I had to say something to make people laugh," Jones later told reporters.
Obama said to Cooper: "Fortunately, the president was nice about it, so it's all right."
Obama had the last laugh, though, when he hugged Cooper — and even kissed her.
"On the cheek, just the cheek — please, Michelle, don't come after me — just the cheek!" Cooper told the president, according to WLS-TV.
The president's appearance at the Chicago polling station was part of a White House bid to drive early voting.
