George Karl itching for another coaching opportunity

Some former coaches enjoy settling into the more relaxed lifestyle that comes with being an NBA broadcaster – staying close to the game with about 1/10th the amount of stress.

George Karl is not one of them.

The former Nuggets, Bucks and SuperSonics coach turned ESPN analyst is hoping for another opportunity.

"I miss the gym. I want to coach," Karl said. "It [being an analyst] is a good escape for me to stay in the game, be around the game and talk the game. Every morning I wake up and I have to study like a coach, but for a different reason."

Karl enjoyed his biggest success in Seattle, losing to the Bulls in the 1996 Finals. He led a perennial playoff team with Carmelo Antony in Denver, but never got further than the Western Conference Finals.

He was the NBA's Coach of the Year in the 2012-13, but parted ways with the Nuggets after a contract dispute.

"Right now, I'd probably prefer to wait for a team with a chance to get to the top," said Karl, 63.

"I never really turned down an NBA coaching job, and I think anyone that comes to talk to me and I have that privilege they'd be able to talk me into it probably. I don't think the worst team in the NBA is that far from the best team."
