The Red Bulls confirmed sporting director Andy Roxburgh will not return next season after a successful two-year run as sporting director.
During his two seasons in New York, the Red Bulls won their first-ever trophy (the Supporter's Shield last year for best regular-season finisher) and reached the conference final this year for the first time since 2008.
"After two wonderful seasons with this great club and with my contract at an end, it is time for me to move on to a new challenge," Roxburgh said in a statement. "When I came to New York, I was given the remit of raising professional standards on the sporting side and bringing success on the field. With the support of everyone at the club, I feel that these objectives have been achieved.
"I want to thank Mr. Mateschitz, the owner, for the opportunity to work with so many talented people, players and staff. I wish all of them every success in the future. Finally, I must pay tribute to our magnificent supporters. They've been our 'twelfth man' and a truly inspirational force. With their backing, and a professional structure in place, New York Red Bulls will surely go from strength to strength."
From the time he arrived in 2012, Roxburgh was responsible for all soccer operations. The Scotsman oversaw the building of a new training facility last season. He also hired Mike Petke as head coach and signed striker Bradley Wright-Phillips (who went on to tie the MLS single-season record with 27 goals this year).
"On behalf of the New York Red Bulls, we want to thank Andy for his contributions during a great two years of service to the club," said GM Marc de Grandpre. "Andy is a true professional and his influence on the club will be felt for years to come. We wish him all the best going forward."
