‘Screeching’ subway ukulele player sues to stop amp ban

He serenades straphangers with music that sounds like "cats dying" — and he's suing to keep it that way.

Electronic-ukulele busker Christopher X. Brodeur, who describes his instrumental imitation of a screeching train as "magical," is suing the MTA for banning amplifiers, which, he says, prevents him from "thrilling" subway riders with his performances.

The one-time nemesis of Mayor Rudy Giuliani claims he beat "23 false arrests" by a city that "kills people's souls."

He explains his "art" this way: "When a train is delayed on the platform and everyone's waiting for the damn doors to close, I prank them by playing the exact two notes — bing-bong! — the doors do when they're about to close."

The 47-year-old Lower East Sider says most cops and riders "love what I do and praise me endlessly."

Except, of course, a cop who recently confronted him.

"She had to listen to me for an hour the prior nite and said it sounded like cats dying," he wrote on Facebook.

He uses an amplifier and delay pedal to alter the noises of trains, he explains in his handwritten suit, which seeks $500,000 and includes a sketch of his setup.

"I imitate the noisy trains . . . but do harmony or counterpoint to change the shrieking metal into musical and romantic wonder!" the Brooklyn federal court suit says.

"The MTA should make me their first artist-in-residence! An easy solution to the violent and horrific shrieking noise that terrorized the ears of millions. It's almost like a magic trick! It's like I'm singing with whales!"

In 2006, Brodeur was sentenced to six months in jail for threatening to "torture" and "peel the flesh" from his landlord and a rent collector.

He has at least 18 arrests since 1997 for charges including aggravated harassment, trespass and disorderly conduct. He says most were over free-speech issues.

In December 2012, he was convicted of violating a restraining order filed by a 19-year-old model and singer.

Brodeur, who ran for mayor in 2005, was known for calling up Giuliani's press aides. He claims he was just covering City Hall as a reporter.

He wants a judge to toss three tickets he got for his amp and issue an injunction to suspend the amp ban. The MTA declined to comment.
