We spend a lot of time recommending plenty of great shows and movies to stream online, but what have the members of the Decider enjoyed in the last week? We'd like to share that with you, too — and tell you where to stream them, of course.
Sliding Doors
This week, I got very involved in Shakespeare Uncovered on the PBS Roku app, but I doubt anyone but me cares about Morgan Freeman's take on The Taming of the Shrew. I finally caught the first episode of Empire and it's true, Taraji B. Henson is everything in it. I also rewatched Sliding Doors. I loved this movie when I was in my early teens, but now that I've seen it as an adult, I have to say that it's much more tedious and uncomfortable than I remember. I mean, they almost spend more time making Helen's cheating boyfriend, Jerry (John Lynch), seem relatable than they do establishing Helen's wants, needs, and desires. —Meghan O'Keefe [Where to stream Sliding Doors]
Cosomos: A Spacetime Odyssey
I'm a little late to the Cosmos game, but I recently started watching the spacey series and I have to say, as a bonafide space nut who actually thought she was going to be an astronaut as a child, I'm disappointed. On paper, it has everything I could possibly want: nebulas, planets, history lessons, mind-blowing philosophy, and of course, Neil deGrasse Tyson. But perhaps I had too much of a buzz on or maybe it's simply not for me, but I just couldn't get into it. Bob's Burgers
Bob's Burgers is like the Tums of television: I use it to make me feel better and to help me fall asleep. This week, I watched way too many episodes of Bob's Burgers, including some that are on Olivia Armstrong's The 10 Most Hilarious Episodes Of Bob's Burgers list. My favorite episode from that list that I watched this week was "Sacred Cow" (Season One, Episode Three). The Wire
This week I streamed Season Three, Episode Three of The Wire. This week I asked myself why I am still streaming this boring-ass show. This week I wondered if people just thought it was a mind-blowing show because it came before actual mind-blowing shows like Breaking Bad and Homeland and stuff? This week I wondered why I make the choices I make. This week I wondered why I continue to do things that are bad for me, like eat wheels of cheese for dinner and continue to date garbage people and stream things that are awful. It's Garry Shandling's Show
Last week I was all giddy about new streaming service Shout Factory TV and its eclectic mix of pop culture cult faves. Well, I'm still on that kick. This week? The uber-meta '80s Showtime series It's Garry Shandling Show, which, yes, stars Garry Shandling as Garry Shandling, an LA comedian who stars in a sitcom about himself in which he talks to the audience half the time.
