HBO is canceling its low-rated "Looking" after two seasons. A rep confirmed the move to Page Six and said the network will air a special to wrap up loose ends. The gay-themed show aired its final episode of its second season on Sunday.
Before HBO could announce the news, however, a writer posted on Facebook this week that he'd been informed by one of the show's stars, Jonathan Groff, that the show was getting axed and would shoot an HBO film for fans.
Author Kevin Sessums posted on Facebook: "I had an email from my friend Jonathan Groff… telling me that HBO announced today that it was canceling ['Looking'] but that it would film a movie… in order to wrap things up instead of leaving things hanging."
The latest season of "Looking" reportedly had dismal ratings, averaging about 240,000 total viewers.
An HBO rep confirmed the show is getting cut, and said in a statement: "After two years of following Patrick [Groff's character] and his tight-knit group of friends… HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special. We look forward to sharing this adventure with the shows loyal fans."
