No, Thaddeus Young shouldn’t be starting for the Nets

Here are three thoughts on the Nets' 115-91 loss to the Hornets in Brooklyn Wednesday night:

1. It may not have worked in any way, shape or form, but the Nets should stick with the same starting lineup and rotation.

There has been plenty of clamoring for Nets coach Lionel Hollins to adjust his starting lineup – particularly to move in the newest Net, Thaddeus Young. But the Nets spent the first few months of the season searching for the proper way to balance their first and second units, and the current rotation finally has given them exactly that.

By having Young and Brook Lopez coming off the bench, the Nets now have two primary scorers for each group, with Deron Williams and Joe Johnson in that role with the starters. The bench group of Young, Lopez, Jarrett Jack and Bojan Bogdanovic gives the Nets a nice mix of scoring and adaptability with the starters.

One bad game shouldn't mean the end of that.

2. Oddly enough, it seemed like the biggest reason the smaller lineup didn't work against the Hornets was because Markel Brown had no one to guard.

A big reason why the Nets have been able to get off to hot starts at the beginnings of games – something Charlotte coach Steve Clifford was afraid of happening again – has been because Brown has done an excellent job of slowing down the opponent's top perimeter option.

But the Hornets have basically no wing scoring, especially when they start Gerald Henderson and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. When they were building a big first-quarter lead with Al Jefferson banging in buckets in the paint and Marvin Williams drilling shots on the perimeter, there was nothing Brown could do about it.

3. The Nets handled themselves well after their first-quarter sleepwalk doomed them to a loss.

Outside of one comment from Hollins about how they battled back into the game briefly in the second quarter, the Nets universally said the same things: We didn't show up. It's unacceptable. The Hornets were outstanding.

After a loss like this, there's nothing else that should be said.
