Up to 8 inches of snow expected in NYC

NEW YORK — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow for parts of New York City and Long Island.

The advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 p.m. Thursday for Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens. Those areas could get between 4 and 8 inches of snow by the time it ends.

Less snow is predicted for Manhattan and the Bronx and southern Westchester County. A winter storm watch is in effect there during the same period. Between 3 and 6 inches of snow is expected.

Rain is in the forecast for most of the day Wednesday.
